BPM 2007 is the fifth in a conference series that provides one of the most prestigious forums for researchers and practitioners in all aspects of business process management. The conference has a record of attracting innovative research of the highest quality related to all aspects of business process management (theory, frameworks, methods, techniques, software architectures, empirical findings).

One explicit aim of BPM 2007 will be to provide a unique forum for bridging the viewpoints of leading research outcomes with practical demands. In addition to the main research track, BPM 2007 will include an industrial papers' track. For this, the conference encourages industry practitioners to submit experience and application papers reporting on innovative industrial implementations and applications of business process management methods and techniques, with particular focus on their impact on current information technology or business practice. These papers have to go beyond mature prototypes and potentially applicable methodologies and techniques but have to be based on industry experiences or empirical data.

The conference will be complemented by workshops, tutorials, panel discussions, demonstrations and co-located events such as the 4th International Workshop on Web Services and Formal Methods (WS-FM 2007) and a dedicated track for industry representatives.

BPM 2007 will be held in Brisbane, Australia and will be organized by the Business Process Management Research Group, Faculty of Information Technology of the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). The event will be conducted at Gardens Point Campus of QUT. The campus is located in the Central Business District of Brisbane, the fastest growing town in Australia. Conference Paper Submission

Papers should be submitted electronically via the BPM 2007 website by uploading a self-contained PDF file. All submissions must be received no later than 16 April 2007.

Papers must be in English. Papers must be original contributions that have not been published previously, nor already submitted to other conferences/journals in parallel with this conference. The length of the paper should not exceed 16 pages. Papers should be formatted in LNCS format (see www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html for details). The title page must contain a short abstract and a classification of the topics covered, preferably using the list of topics above. The paper must clearly state the problem being addressed, the goal of the work, the results achieved, and the relation to other work. Submission received too late, in another format than PDF and submissions sent by fax will be immediately rejected. The same will happen with papers which are not in English or exceed the page limit.

Industrial papers must be clearly marked as such so they can be appropriately reviewed by the program committee. Otherwise these papers must follow the same format requirements as research papers.

All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings published by Springer-Verlag in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. For each accepted paper, at least one author should register for the conference and plan to present the paper. Authors of selected papers will be invited to submit a paper for a special issue of Data and Knowledge Engineering (DKE, an Elsevier Science journal).

Workshops

Workshops are meant to facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences between active researchers, and stimulate discussions on new and emerging issues in line with the conference topics. Workshops may concentrate in-depth on research topics, or may also be devoted to application and/or standardization issues.

Workshop proposals should include: the workshop title; name and brief biography of each organizer; an outline of the workshop theme, goals, planned activities and intended audience. A draft call for workshop papers can be included in the proposal instead of the workshop outline. Proposals should be submitted in electronic form (plain text or PDF) to the BPM Workshop Co-Chairs.

Demonstrations

Submissions are invited for demos to be included in the BPM 2007 Demonstration Program. This program is intended to showcase innovative business process management related implementations, technologies and tools, and will provide a valuable opportunity to show and discuss emerging technologies with key researchers and practitioners in the BPM domain.

All demonstration submissions should include a title, a short description of the system, a summary of its novel characteristics, the list of functions and features to be demonstrated, and state the significance of the contribution relevant to the Conference themes. Submissions must be in English, must not exceed four pages, and must be in LNCS Format. We encourage authors to include in their submissions a link to a set of screenshots and/or mockups and/or animations of the proposed demonstration where possible.

Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of their innovation, practical value, relevance and presentation. Accepted submissions will be published both on the Conference website and as separate proceedings. Submissions are to be sent as email attachments (PDF format) to the Demo Co-Chairs.

Tutorials and Panel Discussions

Tutorials and panel discussions will complement the core of the BPM 2007 conference. Tutorials will provide the opportunity to introduce one selected topic and to discuss related trends and challenges. Panel discussions will allow the open conversation of BPM-related topics. The local organizers are able to facilitate contacts to local industry representatives, if this is of interest for an organizer of a panel.

Proposals for tutorials and panel discussions should include: the title; name, brief biography of each participants; an outline of the theme, goals, planned activities and intended audience. Proposals should be submitted in electronic form (plain text or PDF) to the Tutorial/Panel Chair.
